Greetings Trail Friends!

Highlands Trail Foundation has a busy schedule of coming events and lots of news to share this spring.

Please mark your calendars and SAVE THE DATE for our first ever fundraiser. The Allegheny Highlands Trail Fest will be held in Montrose Sept. 10. Plans include music, food and fun for all during this daytime event. Watch for more details in local media and online.

We are very excited to announce that restoration of the Western Maryland Railroad Bridge is now complete in Parsons. The bridge will soon be part of the Allegheny Highlands Trail. Highlands Trail Foundation salutes the City of Parsons for making this dream a reality! A grand opening is planned in June.

The third annual Great Tour de Moccaccino will be held on July 16. This HTF event has been lots of fun and we’re looking for a repeat performance in 2011. Please see the enclosed flyer for details and share the extra copies with your trail friends.

Check out something NEW on the website - Elkins Area Bike Routes map brochure, produced with support from the U.S. Forest Service and the Randolph and Tucker County Convention & Visitors Bureaus. We are very proud of this new piece showing some of the wonderful rides in our area. I hope you enjoy it, too. Additional maps are available at visitor centers in Randolph and Tucker counties, HTF member bike shops: Blackwater Bikes, Fat Tire Cycle and Joey’s Bike Shop, and the Monongahela National Forest Headquarters.  Please share the extra copies enclosed with this mailing with your bike-riding friends who may not be HTF members.

HTF’s annual Blackwater Canyon Trail Ride will once again be held in conjunction with Tucker County’s Leaf Peepers Festival. More than 50 riders from West Virginia and many other states participated in 2010. Join us for this spectacular ride on Sept. 24.

Many thanks for your continued support of Highlands Trail Foundation.

See you on the trail!

Karen Carper, President

Your membership and contributions help us maintain the Web site, highlandstrail.org, produce maps and informational literature on area trails, perform trail maintenance projects and provide recreational outings for the community.

Future projects include historic interpretation of the AHT, originally part of the West Virginia Central & Pittsburg Railway founded by Henry Gassaway Davis.

Highlands Trail Foundation also participates in the Allegheny Highlands Trail Partners, a bi-state coalition of trail enthusiasts working to connect AHTs from Thomas to Cumberland, Maryland.
