Elkhenge 08 In a New Location

    Organizers of the Eighth Annual Elkhenge Music Festival are pleased to announce a new location for this year's benefit concert. The Saturday, September 20 show will be held at the Rich Mountain Battlefield campground. "Since insurance demands made previous locations impractical," a festival spokesperson said, "we've been searching for a home. The good folks at RMBF have offered their campground, and the site seems ideal."  
    All  proceeds from Elkhenge will be shared between the Rich Mt Battlefield Association to preserve the Civil War site and the Highlands Trial Foundation, a group dedicated to the development of recreational rail trails in the area.
    Performing at Elkhenge 8 will be Junk Drums, a "Blue Man Group" style drum show founded by Elkins High graduates Evan Devine, Chris Newsome, and Matt Kelly.  "Despite more 'famous' performers at Elkhenge," recalled promoter Bret Rosenblum, "Junk Drums has been THE most popular act  in our history".
    Also taking the stage will be Hillbilly Gypsies. This young group from Morgantown plays a rollicking style of bluegrass, and their previous Elkhenge appearance had the entire crowd up and dancing. Headlining Elkhenge 8 will be New Jersey based jam-band, Juggling Suns. "The Suns are our house band,"noted Rosenblum, " and they  have developed a loyal Elkins following."  Their psychedelic  dance groove evoke memories of the Grateful Dead. 
    Food will once again be provided by Smokin Joe. "I'm not sure where else in West Virginia you can feast on authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken,"said Rosenblum, " but Smokin Joe's version is simply amazing." Overnight camping is encouraged at Elkhenge, and there will be
entertainment for children as well. Over the years, Elkhenge has raised over $10,000 for area non profits.
