Attention geocachers with bicycles
Responding to the world-wide enthusiasm for geocaching events, Allegheny Highlands Trail has placed 24 caches in some very unlikely places along the 25 miles of trail from the trail heads in Highland Park, Elkins, to Hendricks, near Parsons.
Searching for these caches is recommended for bicyclists/geocachers – almost all the cache sites are a mile or more from a trail entry point. You will need a GPSr. A pocket calculator and a compass will be handy too!

The trail is divided into six sections, two of which (Gilman/Kerens and Kerens/Montrose) contain puzzle caches which require answering questions which reveal numbers that help in finding cache locations.
The other four sections (Highland Park/Gilman - Montrose/Porterwood - Porterwood/Parsons - and Bretz/Hendricks) contain gps coordinates that identify individual cache locations.
The clues in the puzzle cache sections are designed to take treasure hunters in a North to North/West direction from Gilman to Kerens and Kerens to Montrose. Otherwise, you can start looking for caches from any of the trail stops.
The Allegheny Highlands Trail covers 25 miles of rolling meadows and forest. The roadbed is mostly gravel with some sections of asphalt, and is level, with the exception of a moderate climb and exhilarating descent between Montrose and Porterwood,
